The secret to having a great portrait taken
Trust your photographer (that's me!)
Ask for direction. Do you already know your best angles? If not, I'm going to help you find them and give you gentle direction to show your best side.
Show your whole self
Every person is beautiful. But sometimes we hide that beauty, or we hide away from the camera and we don't allow ourselves to be seen. By being present, allowing yourself to be open to the process, then you allow yourself to be captured in a photo. Your beauty comes through in your eyes, and your connection with the photographer shines through.
Be comfortable in your presentation
Consider your wardrobes options and what you really like to wear. Wearing an outfit that makes you feel good as well as look good is half the battle won. Attention to the details such as hair and makeup can take your portrait to the next level. A professional makeup session with an artist who knows how to do makeup for photography or film means that your assets will be highlighted. (This can be especially important if you're being photographed under lights or flash lighting situations where certain makeups can reflect light more than others).
Enjoy the experience
Because the photographer wants to connect with you and have fun doing it. You may have never had a positive photo experience. If that's you, then please tell me. I want to make sure you have a really good time and that you're comfortable in front of the camera. That might mean we allow a little bit of extra time before I pick up my camera, or it might mean we review the images as we go and tweak angles or even outfits to bring out your best.
Smile (really Smile) and let your photo be taken
Even if you're not smiling with your mouth, smile through your eyes. Look 'through' the lens to the photographer behind the camera. Be in the photo. Have your photo taken.
